Three arrested for Lindelani public violence

Police are still in the area.

Three people were arrested for public violence in Lindelani this morning (March 5).

Roughly 200 residents of the informal settlement were protesting against not having electricity, according to sources.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni SAPS, said protesters starting burning tyres and blocking roads from 5am.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Community Policing Forum (CPF) executive chairperson Reza Patel said Putfontein Road was affected in the direction of Springs from Modder Road.

He said at 12.30pm that the situation was still volatile.

Sekele said law enforcement authorities were still in the area.

The spokesperson said the male suspects, aged 38, 44 and 45, were being detained at the Benoni Police Station.
