UPDATE: Protest calmer in Kingsway Avenue

Residents are protesting because they don't have electricity.

The protest action in Kingsway Avenue in Lindelani was calmer today, according to the EMPD media liaison officer for the southern region, Lieut Kobeli Mokheseng.

He said from about 6am to 1.30pm today, protesters were still occupying the street.

However, the dispatch centre of the eastern region informed him that since the second shift had come on duty at 2pm, the situation had been under control.

Mokheseng said no arrests had been made today and no injuries had been reported.
He said the EMPD was working with the police to monitor the situation.
“The street is still closed for motorists,” he said.
