No clear road ahead for Pretoria Road

Zane Garner, whose parents have been living on a plot in the suburb for about 60 years, contacted the City Times about the illegal dumping.

Garner’s father owns two adjacent plots in the road.

Tyres and building rubble are being dumped on the vacant plot.

He said the dumping is getting out of hand and that at one stage they couldn’t drive on the road as it was blocked by building rubble.

Garner said he has confronted many dumpers, but he is only met with hostility and arrogance.

“They just swear at me and tell me they can do what they want,” he explained.

He said he and members of a security company kept one perpetrator for up to four hours, waiting for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) to arrive.

“They just didn’t show,” he said.

He also said he has phoned the police but they informed him they can’t do anything about it as it must be handled by the EMPD.

Neither the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality nor the EMPD had responded to questions by the time of publication.
