Man sentenced for attempted theft

The man is serving his sentence at Modderbee Prison.

France Mathebela (19), was found guilty of attempted theft and malicious damage to property and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in the Benoni Regional Court on May 8.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said the man was apprehended by the police while he was hiding at a plot on Lilyvale Street, Putfontein on January 26.

“The man attempted to steal cellphone tower batteries and he was found in possession of a wheel spanner,” said Ramaube.

“The man failed to explain to the police why he was possession of the tools.”

He was then arrested and detained.

Putfontein SAPS station commander Lieut-Col Wellington Mathiane applauded Det Sgt Moswarisheng Makofane for a job well done.
