Traintrack Max finds a loving home

The SPCA named him Max after rescuing him.

A worthless dog to one became a priceless dog to another in this beautiful story of Max who was left for dead in Daveyton, rescued by the SPCA and has now found a home.

The German shepherd-cross was tied to a railway line in Daveyton and found by a train conductor, Athol Badenhorst, on May 16.

The story became social media news which caught the attention of Rynfield resident Ashley Bannister.

“When I looked at the pictures I saw a broken dog that had probably only seen humans mistreat him and fail him in life, and it broke my heart,” Bannister said.

“I decided then and there that I wanted to help Max and look after him and to show him that there are people in this world who will look after him and treat him like a best friend and soulmate.”

Max was adopted on Saturday (June 2) and is now the beloved pet to Bannister, his partner Lisa Peach and her daughters, Tyler (10) and Halle (8) Bissell.

Ashley Bannister is Max’s new dad.

“It hit me quite hard how terribly hard his life must have been,” Bannister said.

“This just made me more determined to take care of Max and give him a special life.”

Bannister said he wanted Max but had to give him time to spend with the Benoni SPCA to treat him to health before adopting him.

“Although all of this is quite new to him and he was a bit apprehensive, he has settled in nicely and is slowly getting his personality and character back one day at a time,” Bannister said.

“He is even doing a clumsy little dance every time I drive into the driveway at home.

“When I walk around the property and the house, he walks right next to me, often brushing up right against me.”

Looks like Max is warming up to the camera. Look at those dreamy eyes.

Bannister said he has no doubt that in a few months Max will be a beautiful soul and a totally different boy who will be loving life.

“Our family can’t wait to share this wonderful journey with this amazing boy,” Bannister said.

“I know he will bless us and touch our lives and remind us how special animals can be to all of us.”
