Cat lovers in for a treat of an exhibition at Lakeside Mall

Cat lovers and breeders will gather together for a unique exhibition

The Cat Fanciers’ Club of South Africa will have a show for all breeds of cats at the boat deck at Lakeside Mall on Saturday, August 11.

The event will present two shows – a champion show and a competition to determine the best cat shown in Gauteng throughout the year.

From 9am, the cats will be judged in their various classes, while at approximately 2pm the main Best in Show judging will take place.

At that stage, the best cats out of the various sections will compete to determine the section winners and eventually the Best Exhibit on Show.

Immediately after this, the contestants for the title of Gauteng Top Cat will compete in successive knock-out rounds.

A number of judges from Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban will officiate at the show.

“It’s all about beauty,” said Ingrid de Wet.

“The standard of the Gauteng breeding cats is very high.”

Approximately 140 entries are expected.

A variety of breeds will be on show, including Persians, Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats, British Shorthairs, Burmese, Sphynx, Siamese and Orientals.

A number of less well-known breeds such as Siberians, Cornish Rex, Devon Rex and LaPerms, will also be represented.

“The aim of the event is to give credit to the quality of the cat and announce the best cat.”

The show offers an ideal opportunity for members of the public who may be considering acquiring a pedigreed kitten, to meet reputable breeders and discuss with them the attributes of the breeds they are interested in.

The show will be open to the public all day and is anticipated to finish by 4pm.

The event is sponsored by the well-known pet food manufacturer, Royal Canin.

More information may be obtained from the show managers, Elizabeth van Renen, 0828291118 after hours, elizabthvre@gmail.com) and Ingrid de Wet (0723246059 after hours, incats@global.co.za).

Please note that no entries can be accepted on the day of the show.
