Orlando Pirates player gives back to Daveyton community

The Musa Nyatama Foundation will be officially launched on September 26 at Carnival City.

Orlando Pirates player Musa Nyatama celebrated his birthday by giving back to the young and old in his hometown Daveyton on August 16.

Nyatama embarked on his first community outreach programme as part of the Musa Nyatama Foundation, which will be officially launched on September 26 at Carnival City.

The soccer star donated 41 blankets to residents of Rose-May Dabula Old Age Home, 50 pairs of school shoes to learners of Ntsikana Primary School and a soccer kit to the senior team of Hulwazi Secondary School.

Rose-May Dabula Old Age Home resident Hesina Mbani loves his blanket.

The Musa Nyatama Foundation is a non-profit organisation that has been established to address social inadequacies faced by historically disadvantaged communities.

Nyatama said he decided to celebrate his birthday, which was on August 15, with the elders at Rose-May Dabula Old Age Home to show respect to them and get their blessings.

He said the objective of the organisation is to stimulate social change by engaging the youth through sports, arts and culture.

“Address unemployment by providing ongoing information on youth development opportunities and introducing anti-drug awareness campaigns that will combat this drug and substance abuse plague that is gradually consuming our communities,” said Nyatama.

Emily Mohlamonye from Rose-May Dabula Old Age Home said they are very blessed as Nyatama decided to share his birthday by giving back to the elders.

“May God continue to bless and may he continue to lend a hand to those in need,” said Mohlamonye.

Nyatama’s foundation is also planning on adopting other schools in order to help learners from poor backgrounds with the necessary tools to achieve their dreams.

The elders at the old age home were also treated with lunch and cake.
