Nkosana Sipho Mthombeni was granted R1 000 bail at the Benoni Regional Court on September 19 for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.
Mthombeni allegedly doused his girlfriend, Smangele Kholeka Mahlangu (26), in paraffin and set her alight on August 31 at Bagdad squatter camp near Mayfield, Putfontein.
Mahlangu died at the Far East Rand Hospital on September 5 due to the severity of the burns.

The state changed the charge from attempted murder to murder after Mahlangu died.
The 32-year-old will make his next appearance on October 24.
