On December 6, the Benoni SPCA raided a home in Brentwood Park with a warrant to remove 14 cats.

“Although the cats were reasonably healthy, they had been permanently locked in a house and living in putrid conditions,” explained Benoni SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore.

“The closed windows were covered with steel grids and there was no ventilation, only the foul stench of urine and faeces.

“The messy dwelling made for a difficult confiscation, with our inspectorate having to climb cupboards and stumble over obstacles in order to catch the frightened animals.

“The cats have safely settled in at the Benoni SPCA while the owners are dealt with.

“Donations towards the upkeep of these animals will be greatly appreciated.”
