The Benoni SPCA’s cheer fund, which was initially set to close on December 24, is now being extended to December 31.
This week the total collected from the fund amounted to R7 490.
Combined with previous totals, the tally before the New Year’s Eve deadline stands at R19 730.
Benoni SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore said last year a target of R60 000 was set with the society receiving a total of R29 580.

“We would like to thank the generous individuals who have donated towards the homeless and unwanted animals this year,” said a grateful Finnemore.
“People who still wish to donate will be able to do so until December 31 as the Cheer Fund closing date has been extended.
“For those who may still be working and will be working throughout the festive season, we are open on Saturdays and any donation from the public will be welcomed.”

• Donating a cash amount
• Donating cat and dog food, blankets, leads or collars
• Purchasing Christmas cards (available at reception) at R25 each
• Purchasing animal earrings as presents (available at reception) at R40 per pair
• Sponsoring a kennel
• Purchasing goods from the Benoni SPCA charity shop.
