AfriForum Benoni patrollers ready to do their job

Members and patrollers join on a voluntary basis and receive training on the general code of conduct and radio network code of conduct, which are then signed by each member.

AfriForum neighbourhood watch patrollers will be on the beat in Benoni suburbs from the end of February and the local branch received new safety equipment recently in line with the deployment of these patrollers.

The equipment includes 11 bulletproof vests, night vision apparatus, patrol lights, first-aid kits and pepper spray.

Gerald Green, chairperson of AfriForum’s Benoni branch, said with the current growth in AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches on the East Rand, it is extremely important that patrollers are properly equipped to serve the community.

Archie Mouyis, chairperson of AfriForum’s Benoni neighbourhood watch, reiterated that proper equipment enables neighbourhood watches to actively contribute to the prevention of crime.

“The Benoni Neighbourhood Watch will focus on supplementing its equipment and on the reinforcement of training to ultimately empower patrollers to proactively make a difference in the community,” he said.

“We urge the community to become involved with the local branch and the neighbourhood watch. The more people are involved, the greater the difference we can make,” concluded Green.
