DA wins sanitary bins motion
The Democratic Alliance in Ekurhuleni was recently able to get their motion passed through council which effectively forces the metro to install female sanitary bins in public facilities across the metro, as well as appoint specialised service providers to manage and dispose of the associated waste.
After an investigation into the matter, the DA Health and Social Development Oversight Committee found that a number of public facilities within the metro did not have sanitary bins in bathrooms for females.
The DA believes the lack of access to these sanitary bins seriously infringes on the rights and dignity of women afforded by the Constitution and they will strictly monitor the process to ensure the metro is held accountable.

Call centre glitches being addressed
The Ekurhuleni metro recently stated its customer service call centre has been experiencing technical glitches that result in callers being cut-off before they are assisted.
The cut-off mainly occurs when callers select an option they are prompted to select.
The metro has temporarily eliminated the prompt option and calls will be routed directly to any available call centre agent.
“Our IT department has been tasked with overhauling the call centre system to introduce a new version that will give customers effortless access to our agents and result in speedy resolution of their queries,” said Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, divisional head of communication and media relations at the metro.
Customers must still lodge their queries through the call centre (0860 543 000) or, alternatively, use the My Ekurhuleni App. The app is also compatible with non-smartphones and customers may use their phone to report service delivery issues via a USSD (*134*30263) option, at no cost.
Residents who are not registered but eligible to vote in the upcoming national elections are urged to register at the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) offices at selected Ekurhuleni Customer Care Centres, as registration is still open.
The elections take place on May 8.
There are about 19 000 smart ID cards and barcoded ID books which remain uncollected at Ekurhuleni home affairs offices and residents who have not collected these are urged to do so.
Residents can call the IEC on 080 060 1190 or SMS their ID number to 32810 (charged at R1) to get their registration status and their current voting station or visit the IEC website at www.elections.org.za
