Metro responds to no diesel allegation

According to residents, the grass had not been cut for over a month, making it difficult for motorists to see oncoming traffic on this corner.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) disputes any allegations about diesel not being procured and the metro not being able to fill their vehicles.

This comes as a response to Democratic Alliance leader in Ekurhuleni Clr Phillip de Lange’s comment about them being inundated with calls from officials across the metro revealing there is a diesel shortage resulting in service delivery grinding to a halt.

EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe said: “Recent rains have presented a challenge in terms of grass cutting, but in the same manner we have a focused plan to deal with the backlog in Benoni.”

Demolitions at plaza not to affect tenants

In a recent post on a social media platform, a Benoni resident took it upon himself to cut the grass on the corner of Trumpet Street and Vlei Road.

De Lange said this is not the first time the metro has suffered a diesel shortage – in 2016 the same shortage was as the result of supply chain management processes and led to refuse not being collected.

“If this is not dealt with soon, the situation may worsen and could result in a series of backlogs in the service delivery system,” de Lange said.
