Successful police operations

All suspects arrested are expected to appear at the Daveyton and Benoni Magistrate’s Courts soon.

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster, together with the EMPD, SAPS detectives, Sars, custom services and the community policing forum (CPF) conducted a crime prevention operation on March 8.

The operation was conducted in various areas in Benoni, Daveyton, Etwatwa and Putfontein.

On the day, 452 people and 284 vehicles were stopped and searched.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe said 43 people were arrested, 571 counterfeit goods were confiscated, and police issued G534 fines to the value of R12 000 and the EMPD issued R17 500 traffic fines.

“The detectives arrested 23 people for various crimes such as attempted murder, assault GBH, malicious damage to property, house break-in and theft, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” said Maqabe.

All suspects arrested are expected to appear at the Daveyton and Benoni Magistrate’s Courts soon.
