Three arrested for stolen diesel and cell tower batteries

The three suspects were found on the property and were arrested.

Three suspects were arrested on March 18 following a tip-off received by the EMPD SWAT team about petroleum and diesel being stolen in Putfontein.

“The two members of the EMPD SWAT team acted upon information received about people suspected of stealing petrol and diesel from trucks, which is then sold from a property on De Wet Street, Putfontein,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“Officers from the EMPD SWAT Unit went to the address to investigate.”

Kgasago said upon arrival, a trailer (tanker) stolen in 2017 was recovered.

“Several containers filled with diesel and petrol, as well as cell tower batteries, were also found on the property,” he said.

“Three suspects found on the property were arrested.”

Kgasago said preliminary investigations pointed to the trio being undocumented Zimbabwean nationals.

The case was registered at the Putfontein Police Station and immigration officials were summoned and the suspects, aged 20, 22 and 31, were also charged for breaking immigration laws.
