The Benoni Community Policing Forum is appealing to residents and businesses in Western Extension to report any crimes following an increase in the area.
CPF PRO Marinda Beukes said Sector Four CPF has seen a huge increase in crime since the beginning of the month, 20 different crimes have been reported to the police and about five were not.
“Most of these incidents occur on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Monday nights,” said Beukes.

“Residents must report every crime, whether you think it’s petty or not, every crime needs to be reported as they are used as statistics by the police.”
Beukes said stats are extremely important because they don’t just establish crime trends, but also indicates the volume of crime and vehicles allocated to sectors.
“For instance, when you see someone running down the street with a wheelbarrow call 10111 or your local security company or use the iER app,” she said.
“It does not help to post crime incidents on all the local WhatsApp crime groups before calling the SAPS or a security company because by the time they get there the alleged suspect is long gone.
“We are aware that residents and businesses have also seen an increase of vagrants moving into the area.”
Beukes added the police can’t physically move them, but can ask them to move. If you see they have put up structures or tents call the police or EMPD so they can remove them.
“There are two scrapyards in the area which also play a role in the increase of crime, it is alleged that one is legal, but operates 24/7 and the other one is operating illegally.
“Residents need to keep their eyes and ears open at all times.”
