Dear councillor Melanie Haggard, I read in the Benoni City Times about all the wonderful upgrades you (council) are going to do at Homestead Dam but there is no mention of any upgrades or changes for the disabled.

I don’t know if you know that a person in a wheelchair cannot get entrance to the park from any of the entrances?
So, unfortunately, it seems that only the able are able to enjoy a relaxing day at the park/dam.
• Editor’s comment: Clr Haggard responded: “The upgrades to the park are a continuous project, which started in 2018, and will be completed in 2022 as part of a five-year project. As the upgrades progress there will be better access for all (abled and disabled). Moms with their toddlers and those in wheelchairs will be able to access the park via the walkway. Phase two of the upgrades is due to commence in June/July where paving will be extended from Kei Road to Mercury Road. Yes, we are a rainbow nation but these things take time.”
