Bookworms encouraged to keep using Benoni Library
According to Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe users can still access the latest material through the e-book system.
Friends of the Benoni Library committee member Ann Smith encourages residents to continue going to the Benoni Library as the recent expiration of the system licence and plans from the metro to replace it will not affect any services.
“There is also internet connectivity which enables users to use the library computers for other internet based functions such as job application, research and registrations,” he said
The book bashes hosted by Friends of the Benoni Library have been put on hold due to the small number of library goers. Profits made from these sales go towards buying new books for the Benoni Library.

Ann said the committee have been around for over 16 years and have received donations from the public which have helped put thousands of new and second-hand books onto the shelves of the Benoni Library and learners have also received study guides free of charge.
“A date for the next book bash will be set only once the number of library goers start growing again,” she said
Residents willing to donate books to Friends of the Benoni Library can contact Smith on 083 2299 024 for her to pick up or books can be dropped off at the Benoni Library by the adult section and mention to the receptionist the books are meant for friends.
A date as to when the library system will be online has not been given by the metro.
