Organiser and director of music at St Dunstan’s, Denise Roderick, said the festival was not a competition.

“The event is the highlight of the year in the cultural calendar of the East Rand,” said Roderick.

“It is fascinating every year to hear all the cultures and musical flavours that all the schools bring to the festival.”

About 400 learners attended the festival and at the end of the night they were all on stage for the massed item.

The evening was supported by a full house of supporters.
