Garland Ladies dressed to kill
Tables of eight, each assigned one of the suspects’ characters, had the arduous task of unmasking the murderer among them.
The Katse Room at the Ebotse Golf and Country Estate was teeming with amateur sleuths of all shapes and sizes on Thursday last week, all in pursuit of a devious female murderer.
These “detectives” were guests and members of the Garland Ladies Luncheon Club who gathered to take part in a murder mystery to solve the heinous crime against Rodney Miles, an employee of the Benoni Spa, who was found brutally murdered after being locked inside a tanning booth.

The year is 1968, and inspector Piet van der Piet (Stephen Carton-Barber) is heading up the investigation.
He had identified eight female suspects, all clients of the spa. These included a local housewife, the wife of a wealthy businessman, a tennis star, bank manager, poet, attorney, respected businesswoman and a glamorous socialite.
The plot quickly thickened as more clues and juicy details were revealed about the characters in each round.
Shrieks of laughter filled the room at the absurdity of some of the details, and the fact that many of the guests and members dressed according to their character, made it an unforgettable experience – especially for those who had not taken part in a murder mystery game before.
Players had to guess who the murderer was before the final set of clues was handed out.
It transpired that the respected bank manager, Abigail de Villiers, had murdered Rodney …. because she was having an affair with him and had fallen pregnant but was then shunned by the masseuse of her dreams.
Garland member Lynn Kennedy not only played the character of Abigail de Villiers at her table, but also won the prize for guessing it was Abigail who murdered Rodney because she was a woman scorned. Indeed she was.
Why not join the fun?
The Garland Ladies Luncheon Club welcomes women of all ages who live on the East Rand to join.
They host interesting guest speakers (and a bit of fun and games inbetween) on the fourth Thursday of each month, at Ebotse, at 12:30pm.
A three-course meal is included and the meetings make for wonderful networking and socialising opportunities.
