Ismail said she will be based in Benoni, but will travel to Cape Town to Parliament as scheduled.

“I have been allocated as the political head for the Benoni constituency. I will, therefore, be overseeing all the wards in my constituency.

“Now that I serve as a MP, the by-election to elect the new councillor will be on August 7.

“I have tried to serve residents of Ward 29 to the best of my ability and I’m happy that I have fought for and ensured we have had developments in the ward.

“As a MP, I will spend my time highlighting and fighting for the rights of our residents, attend debates and attend meetings.”

Ismail added also part of her duties is to consider and vote on legislation and to hold Cabinet to account.
