Benoni Harriers vice-chairperson dies after severe heart attack
Manilal was fondly known as ‘The Pink Panther’ to his fellow runners and club members and integrally involved in the day-to-day activities and events at the club.
The Benoni Harriers Running Club and its members are in a deep state of shock following the death of the club’s popular vice-chairperson Anand Manilal this morning (August 14).
Manilal (51) was on a training run in the Northmead area on August 3 when he suffered a severe heart attack. He was admitted to hospital where he was in ICU until his death.
He recently completed his 10th Comrades Marathon to earn his green number and also a Two Oceans Marathon blue number and lived by the motto ‘Have fun and success will follow’.

He is described by the club’s general manager Anthea du Toit as a ‘very vibrant person who always walked around with a big smile on his face’.
“He will be very sorely missed by the entire Harriers Exco and fellow runners,” said du Toit.
“He was not just a runner, but a family member to each and every person.
“Our heartfelt condolences to his wife, son and daughter.”
