Litter Bugs cleans your litter

Their aim is to clean up Farrarmere one park and pavement at a time, while also encouraging people not to litter and to keep the areas around their homes and businesses free of rubbish.

Benoni’s Litter Bugs gathered to clean a park near Klip Street, Farrarmere, recently.

The initiative was started in 2015 by Samantha Choles and Anne Mcleman, residents of Farrarmere, after they spent their 67 Minutes for Mandela Day picking up litter in their neighbourhood.

They then decided to get together on a monthly basis to tackle the parks and pavements closest to where they live and started inviting others to join.

Choles reiterated that they wish more people would join the Litter Bugs crew and that less people would litter.

“If there’s something that is beyond our capacity we report it to the Ekurhuleni metro.

“I am a big fan of the My Ekurhuleni App and encourage others to use it. I just take a picture and I report it to the metro through the app,” Choles said.

The Litter Bugs meet once a month from 2pm to 4pm – usually on the third Thursday of the month until November.

The crew take a break in December and resume their litter picking in January 2020.
