This new tower will have a capacity of 5.5 megalitres and will be 35 metres tall and 30 metres in diameter.
About 8 589 households, primarily in wards 24, 27 and 28, will benefit from this project.
Contractor site agent Jacob Shabangu previously explained to the City Times that the current average annual daily demand for water in the zone from the tower services is 18 777 kilolitres per day (kl/d).
“This is, however, expected to increase to 23 812kl/d with current and future developments in the area,” he said.
“The structure consists of 24 supporting concrete walls and a centre core. The walls and the centre core are 24.75m in height, which means that the elevated tank will be supported by 24 walls and the centre core.”
There are 58 staff members on site, including Expanded Public Works Programme and core skill employees.
