Smash-and-grab suspect dies after being shot by police in Wattville

A case of murder was opened at the Actonville Police Station.

A smash-and-grab robber was shot dead under the Wattville bridge on December 12 around 7.30am.

Actonville SAPS spokesperson Sgt Godin Nyathi said the man is one of the alleged suspects who are terrorising motorists on a daily basis by smashing car windows at the corner of Commissioner Street and van Dyk Road, Boksburg.

“The deceased and his friend broke a window of one motorist and grabbed the handbag and ran away,” said Nyathi.

“The Boksburg SAPS officers who witnessed the incident chased the two men, who ran towards the Wattville area.

“When police ran after them and tried to grab the one suspect, who is now deceased, he drew out a knife and attacked the officer.”

Nyathi added that during the brawl he was shot and died on scene.
