10 reasons to dare your friends to run

The 10th Hollard Daredevil Run is nearly here!

Friends are siblings we choose for ourselves, and any sibling relationship wouldn’t be complete without a little rivalry. Here are 10 reasons to dare your friends to be part of the Daredevil Run.

1 – You don’t actually have to run. It’s hot out here!

Think of it as a power walk if you have to. We’re dealing with global warming and the African sun. What matters is that you’re there in the fight against male-based cancers.

2 – He said he wanted to go last year, but we all know …

He’s the first one to beat his chest about what a stud he is or how invincible he is, but when it’s time for action, something always comes up. Talk for what? Talk for who? Dare him to show up.

3 – Every time he’s sick, athi inyongo

Flu? Nyongo. Back pain? Nyongo. Gout? Nyongo. Either that or he drinks Med Lemon and sleeps because he must “sweat it out”. No, bafanas. Running is a different sweating technique you can show him.

4 – You can never put his call on loud speaker

You cringe every time he opens his mouth about serious issues because he’s an ‘expert’ in everything, and is really not too well versed in what he’s talking about. By taking part in the Daredevil Run, you can contribute to his expertise with something that is a reality for many men.

5 – His soccer team keeps losing

We’re not mentioning names, but your boi needs help. He needs to take his mind off things. It’s been a while since he’s been on the side of a team that is delivering the beating. The #Daredevil2020 run is the good way to remind him how winners move.

6 – He owes you

Remember that time you lent him your car for a week, only for him to return it with the backseat full of all sorts of takeaway rubbish and an empty petrol tank? He knows that all he needs to do is pick up the phone, and you’re there. You’ve suffered hilarious losses because of him but he’s your boi. Besides, he owes you. And this is a good reason to call him out to spend time dancing to your tune for a change.

7 – He’s your ride or die

There isn’t a moment, or photo op you’ve missed in each other’s lives. Add some colour to your photo collection together with a couple of purple Speedos. Plus you’ll have good stories to tell the grandkids about how you two even took to the streets against testicular and prostate cancer.

8 – When last did you see each other vele?

Adulting is strange, man. You notice you have a bedtime now, you enjoy walking around the house in your boxers, and all you want is to be able to do things that have major impact with not that much effort. You can walk around with no pants on, and support an amazing cause at the same time.

9 – His only outdoor activity is a braai

Granted, he’s a braai master, but there are other nice things to do under the sun. The Daredevil Run is a good way for you all to spend some time together catching up and talking about important things in life. Plus it gives you the opportunity to work up an appetite for that braai, and some ice-cold drinks.

10 – It’s all love

Men go through a lot and are under a lot of pressure to always have it together and be strong. The run is a reminder that men don’t have to go through things alone or in silence, and that bro code is about more than hiding ugly truths from everyone.
