Man arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and police uniform in Wattville

He is expected to appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

A 35-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and police uniform on April 12 in Wattville.

Actonville SAPS spokesperson Capt Pheello Mothapo said the man was arrested by the members of the SAPS K9 Unit, after receiving a tip-off from a community member.

“The community member alleged that the man was at a certain house in the area and he had a firearm,” said Mothapo.

“Police proceeded to the said address and found the alleged suspect who fitted the description.”

Mothapo said police searched the man and found him in possession of the firearm with three live rounds of ammunition.

“Then then searched his room and police uniforms. Appointment cards and three cellphones were also found,” he said.

The man was then arrested and detained at the Actonville Police Station.

A case of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and police uniform was opened.

He is expected to appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
