#Covid-19: Think of those in need and donate to In It Together initiative

Benonians started the initiative to help those who are in during the national lockdown, which commenced on March 26 and will continue until midnight on April 30.

Before heading back to your car after doing some lockdown shopping for essentials, make a donation of non-perishable items in the In It Together trolleys at participating stores.

So far, the participating stores are Superspar Rynfield, Pick n Pay Oakfields and Pick n Pay Farrarmere.

Benonians Mary Goby, Michele Heenan and Hayley Fekete Farah started the In It Together initiative to help those who are in immense need of help during the national lockdown, which commenced on March 26 and will continue until midnight on April 30.

They are, of course, assisted by others who help them to repackage the food into one kilo parcels.

“We are trying to do collecting pap, rice, tin food, packets of soup, tea, coffee, sugar, salt, tin meat and pasta. Basically whatever we can get, we will use,” Goby said.

“We have a team of captains and they will collect, hopefully every second day.

“There are, so far, only two of us with permits to deliver but there are areas that we are not allowed to go into and we are hoping to get help from those areas but that must have permits to drive around.”

Goby said non-perishable and hygiene items are welcome.

“So far the 80 parcels that we have delivered via other appeals have gone very well. We are also keeping a data base as we really want to try give to different people and not the same ones all the time.”

The idea was birthed over Easter weekend when Heenan and Goby were discussing about the need and situations people were in.

“And of course I had handed out other parcels and saw the faces of people receiving and we knew we had to do something to help.

“We are hoping to help those that are not getting any income at this moment and let people go to bed with food in their tummies.”

The initiative depends gravely on the community to help those in need.

Should you need assistance or would like to assist (if not by donating items), Goby can be contacted on her Facebook page – Mary Goby.
