Morehill employee and employer open assault cases after a wage dispute

Both cases of common assault were opened at the Benoni Police Station.

A Morehill employer and employee have opened cases of assault common against each other after they had a wage dispute on May 29 at the business premises

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the employee alleges that he was busy uploading a few things into the truck when one of their female colleagues came to them and told them that they won’t be receiving their full salaries due to the challenges that the company had faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The man then asked to speak to his employer so he can get some clarity,” said Sekele.

He alleges that he was then called into the manager’s office. He asked why they won’t receive their full salaries and then his employer assaulted him.

Sekele said according to the employer, the man got aggressive with him when he was discussing the issues they face during this pandemic.

“That’s when they started fighting,” she said.
