Benoni welcomes first Ladies Circle

The women in the Benoni club, which was launched in August last year, have already made waves by hosting several events

The Ladies Circle is an international organisation which allows you to make connections with ladies from all over the world through international travel to conferences and AGM’s. The clubs conduct fellowship through socials, fund-raisers and projects.

The women in the Benoni club, which was launched in August last year, have already made waves by hosting and assisting in the following events:

  • Fund-raiser quiz night for a crèche in Benoni.

“We had a great turnout of 50 people,” said interim chairperson Lauren Michael.”We collected children’s clothes and toys as well as educational items for the crèche, then hosted a Christmas party for them where we provided hot dogs, juice and sweets and handed over the items collected.

  • The club assisted Round Table Golden East 181 with two online poker tournaments where we raised money for Pick ‘n Pay food hampers for families affected by Covid-19.
  • Two collections of donations were also  done for Chain of Hope to distribute.
  • We donated baked goods to the Pug Rescue bake sale.
  • We held a soup and bread hand-out in partnership with Chain of Hope on Mandela day.

Michael is also the founding member of the circle.

“My husband Leigh Michael has been a Round Table member for seven years and seeing all the good that they do and how much fun they have made me want to start a new circle in our area,” she explained.

Fellow wives of the Round Tablers then joined her in her quest to assist the community.

Although it is the Benoni Ladies Circle, some of the women reside in Boksburg.

“Once we are chartered next month (August), we will raise funds in any way we feel fit (we think of ideas at our meetings and then plan accordingly). We are always looking for sponsors and donations,” Michael explained.

The club, currently comprising of nine members, has goals to raise funds and offer support once they are officially chartered.

“We have an idea to run a Benoni’s Got Talent type contest,” Michael said. “We also have ideas of doing ladies nights but we will have to see what happens with the pandemic as it is difficult to plan events at the moment. The club has built a relationship with a home for girls and is hoping to have some games nights with them.

“Any woman between 18 and 45 years old is eligible to join. My hope is that once we start growing we can charter other circles throughout the country.”

If people would like to donate, they can contact Blaise Dunn (projects convenor) on Lc25project@ladiescircle.co.za or through Facebook (Benoni Ladies Circle).
