Norton Home Estate residents fed-up with state of roads

A contractor is being blamed for breaking fences and shoddy workmanship

The City Times recently visited Donnybrook and Carlisle roads, Norton Home Estate, following reports that the upgraded storm water drains are not working or installed properly.

“The flooding is so bad that the majority of residents end up with their backyards completely flooded,” said Diane Bibby, a resident in the area.

Kotie de Wet, another resident, was apparently approached by the metro with documents to sign regarding breaking through her fence to create a place for the water to flow.

She had no problem with this – on condition they remove the reeds before they overgrow, neaten the area, not leave heaps of rubble and fix the fence once they are done.

None of these requests were met, de Wet said.

“They broke the fence and just left the mess. I am very unhappy with what they have done. This is their idea of how to get rid of the water, instead of just putting in proper storm water drains,” said de Wet.

According to the residents the speed bumps on the roads are not visible as they haven’t been painted, and this makes the roads even more dangerous.

“Apart from the old speed bumps, the metro have erected two new ones which require you bring your car to a complete stop, otherwise you are going to damage your car,” said Bibby.

The City Times has received no comment from metro.
