Ekurhuleni’s Parks and Cemeteries Department has opened gates to all cemeteries for residents wishing to visit the graves of their loved ones.
However, cemeteries such as Vlakfontein, Thomas Nkobi, Cambrian, Lala Ngoxolo, Bredell, Boksburg Sub Regional and Kromvlei with increased burial activities, will only allow visits between 6am and 8am and 3pm and 6pm.
The metro’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said this is to avoid disturbing burials taking place during the day.
Residents wishing to conduct tombstone erecting ceremonies can do so at any time from Monday to Friday between 8am and 3pm.
Only 50 people will be allowed to attend such ceremonies.
“Residents visiting gravesites are urged to keep to the Covid-19 regulations by always maintaining social distancing, wearing a cloth face mask and frequently washing or sanitising hands,” he said.
