Libraries not all open but bookworms can use e-platforms

The metro encourages everyone to make use of the online platforms available, including Libby, a virtual library that allows readers to borrow e-books to read on their computers and digital devices for up to 14 days.

The Ekurhuleni metro is in the process of gradually opening all libraries in the metro which are compliant with the Covid-19 regulations.

The metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said the safety of our staff and patrons are extremely important, especially during these challenging times.

All library staff have been back in their respective libraries since August 3 and available to answer any email or telephonic enquiries.

“We introduced the drop-and-collect service for the safety of our patrons, as the virus can be active on books for up to seven days. We quarantine all our returned materials for this period.

“We only allow students inside the libraries where they can comply with all protocols and social distancing.”

Readers can also recommend titles that are not already on the platform.
