Hole is not another sinkhole

He added that the same upgrades were done on the following roads – Dube (Wattville), Heidelberg (Wattville, Emandleni), Lancaster (Actonville), Tom Jones (Benoni CDB), Voortrekker (Benoni CBD) and New Modder.

The hole that was recently identified on Snake Road is due to pipe jacking preparations to install Rand Water pipes underground, according to Ward 73 councillor Sinethemba Matiwane.

He assured residents that he had been on site with the Benoni depot manager and pipe jacking contractors who confirmed that it is not a sinkhole, as has been reported on some social media platforms.

“Trenches can only be dug in fields and because Snake Road is a busy road, it has to be done underground,” Matiwane said.

He added that the same upgrades were done on the following roads – Dube (Wattville), Heidelberg (Wattville, Emandleni), Lancaster (Actonville), Tom Jones (Benoni CDB), Voortrekker (Benoni CBD) and New Modder.
