Residents of Wards 27 and 28 in Benoni are reminded to make their mark in the municipal elections on December 9 to elect new ward councillors for their areas.
According to the IEC communications department, these wards were previously represented by the DA and the ward seats became vacant as a result of the termination of the councillors’ membership from the party.
The voter turnout for Ward 27 in the 2016 municipal elections was 72.35 per cent and the DA candidate won the ward with 91.89 per cent of valid votes.
Ward 27 will be contested by the following five candidates:
• Jacques Meiring (ANC)
• Lornette Joseph (DA)
• Nomthandazo Bembe (EFF)
• Audrey Steyn (IP)
• Karl Rautenbach (VF)
The voter turnout for Ward 28 in the 2016 municipal elections was 70.19 per cent and the DA candidate won the ward with 90.62 per cent of valid votes.
The five candidates for Ward 28 are:
• Hans Jacobs (ANC)
• Mary Goby (DA)
• Maremane Mapea (EFF)
• Malanie Haggard (IP)
• Jennifer Glover (VF)
