Ladies giving back to the community with time

December 5 is International Volunteer Day.

Four ladies were brought together by giving something that money cannot buy, which is their time to help out at the Greater Benoni Child Welfare Charity Shop as volunteers.

As we move closer to celebrating International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development on December 5, Ann Smith, Alison van Rensburg, Cathy Peace and Margaret Hanbey want to highlight the importance of volunteering.

The four women take turns to volunteer by preparing shelves and welcoming customers with a smile on their face. They all have said they have been doing it for many years and will continue to do so.

Alison added she loves getting involved and helping out the local community and has been doing it for many years; however, volunteering is also keeping her busy during retirement.

Margaret has been volunteering for over 10 years and said: “You have to give back as there are so many in need, we do not have the money to give so we give our time.”

They also want to remind residents to support the charity shop on One Third Street, Northmead, where they have lots of Christmas specials.

They are open from 9am to 1pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 10am to 2pm on Tuesday.
