EMPD arrests suspects in Actonville and Germiston

All the detainees will appear in the Germiston and Benoni Magistrate’s Courts soon.

The EMPD Speed and Drug Enforcement Unit officers arrested five suspects and seized narcotics during crime-prevention operations in Actonville and Germiston recently.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, in Actonville a suspicious 40-year-old was found in possession of four rock substances valued at R500.

“A total of R800 cash was also found following a body search. The suspect charged with possession of narcotics with the intent to sell was taken to the Actonville Police Station.”

Mokheseng said in Germiston, on the N3 southbound by Grey Avenue off-ramp, the speed unit officers arrested a 35-year-old taxi driver in a white Toyota Quantum minibus for driving at a speed of 152km/h instead of 100km.

“On the same stretch zoned 120km/h, a woman in a silver Hyundai Sedan was apprehended for driving 169km/h. She said she was late for work,” Kobeli said.

“Both offenders facing charges of reckless and negligent driving were taken to the Germiston Police Station.”

Two suspects were arrested on the N3 freeway direction south by Radio Road bridge (just after the N17 split) in the Germiston area after driving in a zigzag direction.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested after police found two plastic packets containing knotted and pressed cocaine valued at R30 000.

“The passenger was released after a warning and the Hyundai 120i, belonging to the family member of the arrested driver, was impounded to Germiston Police Station for safekeeping,” he said.

The 27-year-old driver was arrested of possession and possible dealing in illicit substance.

All the detainees will appear in the Germiston and Benoni Magistrate’s Courts soon.
