Police are investigating a case of attempted robbery and an inquest after an alleged robber was shot dead at around 1am on January 10 at Hillcrest AH in Putfontein.
Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi said it is alleged the homeowner was sitting outside on the balcony with his son and his son’s friend when they suddenly saw an unknown man who pointed a firearm at them.
“The 72-year-old father took out his firearm and shot the robber in the upper body,” said Ubisi.
“As he shot at the alleged robber, his accomplice ran away.”
The men gained entry into the property by cutting the fence. The man was declared dead on scene and nothing was taken.”
Both cases were opened at the Putfontein Police Station.
