The Greater Benoni Child Welfare (GBCW) hopes to sell 1 000 cupcakes as the organisaton kickstarts its Cupcake for a Cause initiative, now in its fourth year.
Vanessa Carlse, director of GBCW, said this year’s theme is “spread love and care towards our fellow man”.
“Lockdown and the spread of Covid-19 means people won’t be getting together as they perhaps would have on Valentine’s Day, but this shouldn’t stop us from sharing the love with a sweet treat for your loved ones or even a complete stranger,” she said.
The cupcake fund-raising initiative started in 2018 to bring in extra money for operations at child welfare.
Vanessa explained it has been difficult for them to raise funds due to Covid-19 and encouraged the public to support this initiative by helping them exceed their 1 000 cupcakes target.
Vanilla cupcakes are being sold at R15 each and orders can be placed until February 9.
Cupcakes will be delivered on February 12 with a delivery fee of R20 per order for delivery around the East Rand.
Orders can also be collected at the GBCW offices, at 1 Third Avenue Northmead.

“Please support us, as every rand we get in is a rand more than we had,” Vanessa concluded.
