Driving School Association is requesting the phasing out of online booking

They are also demanding for walk-ins for learners and driver’s licence bookings to be allowed.

Members of the Benoni Driving School Association gathered at the Benoni License Department on February 26 to hand over a memorandum requesting the Ekurhuleni Transport Department to phase out online bookings.

They are also demanding for walk-ins for learners and driver’s licence bookings to be allowed.

Chairman of the association Nhlanhla Gule said the online booking system has been a problem since its inception.

“Driving schools and the public have been complaining about the system and the department has done nothing about it,” said Gule.

According to the members, they can only book on Tuesdays, which has become impractical due to the large volume of users accessing the system at the same time.

MJ Ahmed, the owner of a driving school in Benoni, said the delays caused by the online booking system has negatively impacted his business as clients are frustrated with having to wait long periods for bookings.

“We have been operating slowly since June, but we are struggling as we need to get up at 4am to make bookings.

This is also not good for business as this is how I feed my children.”

In the memorandum they also requested:

• Access to parking in the licensing department.

• Access to use testing grounds for practice purposes.
