Grass at club an eyesore
In a letter to the editor, a Lakefield resident shared his concerns about overgrown grass and how it has become a security risk

The Benoni Lake Club golf course is supposed to be pristine and prestige, as they would say.
I approached the club to put in a request for the grass to be cut.

The response I received was that they do not have staff (albeit their staff is visible) and that if someone has a problem they must get their own gardeners to go cut it.
Not only is it an eyesore but it has also become a huge security risk.
I wonder, if their members cannot afford the club fees, does the club ask them to clean the premises or enforce strict payment?
So why tell us to get our own gardeners to cut their grass?
I just don’t understand this.

Editor’s note: The Lake Club exco committee responded:
“Lake Club Benoni was aware of the problem with regards to the long grass on the golf club opposite Stymie Street. On March 5, the Lake Club Benoni called the chairperson of the Lake West Residents’ Association with regard to the matter and mentioned that they will address the matter but requested patience from the residents as the club was short of staff due to precautionary isolation because of Covid-19.
“Subsequently, we have now gone ahead and resolved the cutting on the inside of the fence.
“The Lake Club is currently awaiting the council’s approval to possibly erect a new clear view-style fence around the perimeter of the golf course within the Lakefield side of the course.
“As always, the outside of the fence remains either the responsibility of the council or with the assistance of the residents.
“We hope that this clarifies the situation and we hope that all is in order going forward.”
