Vervet spotted in Benoni finally caught

The vervet will be moved to a primate centre, where he will slowly be integrated with a troop to be released into a safe area.

The male vervet monkey that was spotted roaming around Benoni recently was caught by the South African Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Morehill on April 7.

According to Vanessa Davis from the centre, a trap was set up in Morehill after he began visiting a particular property regularly.

“We had no luck on the first day, but had loads of reports of him still in the area and frequenting the Benoni Country Club, which offers some quiet time along the golf course.

“We then received a call to say that the vervet was caught in the trap.”

The vervet will be moved to a primate centre, where he will slowly be integrated with a troop to be released into a safe area.
