Two Lakefield women tied up on Freedom Day

At the time of the robbery the victim’s parents, who also reside with her, were in Durban.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Benoni Police Station on April 27 after two women were tied up in Lakefield.

“At about 3.11am in Sunnyside Avenue, it is alleged by the 31-year-old victim she was asleep when two suspects armed with firearms woke her up at gunpoint and told her not to make a noise,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele.

“They asked who was with her in the house and she told them the helper was also asleep in her room.

“The suspects ordered her to wake her up and they were both tied up with cables.”

Sekele said the suspects ransacked the house, taking jewellery, bedding and the safe which contained an undisclosed amount of cash and loaded it into the victim’s mother’s BMW and drove off.

At the time of the robbery, the victim’s parents, who also reside with her, were in Durban.

“No shots were fired; no injuries and no arrests were made. Entry was gained through the bathroom window,” Sekele concluded.
