Sibikwa’s petition makes headway

The petition confronts the systemic obstacles that hinder progress in the Ekurhuleni metro, particularly concerning the arts and culture sector.

Following the planned march on April 26, Sibikwa Arts Centre’s parents, learners and staff successfully delivered their petition to the civic centre in Germiston and have received news that the metro is working on it.

This comes after the petition was handed to the metro and Sibikwa was told that they would be given feedback by May 10.

Following up on the feedback, the arts centre is happy to hear that their petition has been looked at and await further feedback on the next step.

Sibikwa was established in 1988 in response to a call by the community of Daveyton for an initiative for young people during a turbulent period in SA history.

The petition confronts the systemic obstacles that hinder progress in the Ekurhuleni metro, particularly concerning the arts and culture sector.

“As detailed in the petition, the Sibikwa has a 33-year history of serving the community and metro through its provision of quality arts education and training, award-winning touring productions, community-building projects and employment opportunities,” said Sibikwa’s Vumile Qupe.

Sibikwa is located at the corner of Bolton Street and 13 Liverpool Road and may be contacted on 011 422 4359.
