Baby Aurora recovers well at home

“She is much better and we working very hard on her gaining more weight as she had only gained 300 grams in the last seven weeks.”

The City Times recently published an article entitled ‘Rynfield family thankful for the support of the community.’

The article, which reported about Aurora Wileman (an infant who was admitted into ICU after she contracted Covid-19, Bocavirus, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus), provided some information that was factually incorrect.

While the initial information (that was incorrect) provided came from a relative of the infant, Aurora Wileman’s mother, Angelique Wells, then provided the correct information to the City Times.

Upon the information received from the relative, the City Times stated the following in the previous article:

• Angie and two other family members also tested positive for Covid-19 were admitted to the hospital and as a result, Aurora had to fight for her life without physical support from her family.

Wells clarified that while they tested positive for Covid-19, they only stayed in the hospital to be with their children who were admitted.

• While the family is recovering physically from the virus, paying for the medical expenses has become one of their biggest issues, as Kyle recently lost his job as a technician after the security company, which was owned by Angie was sold.

Wells said that she is able to pay for her daughter’s medical bills.

• Kyle is looking for a job as a technician and is appealing to the Benoni community to assist.

Wells explained that while Kyle is job-hunting, he is not requesting help from the community.

When speaking to the City Times, Wells highlighted that the ordeal motivated them to raise awareness on the importance of keeping sick children at home as they suspect that their two-year-old son had contracted RSV at school and passed it on to his six-week-old sister at the time.

She also explained that once these infections occur together, it can worsen the severity of Covid-19.

This was the case for the Rynfield family who rushed their daughter to the hospital where she spent two days at the Netcare Linmed Hospital and returned just four days after being home.

She was later transferred to Life The Glynnwood Hospital where she was placed into the ICU ward, where she stayed for six days.

“She is much better and we working very hard on her gaining more weight as she had only gained 300 grams in the last seven weeks,” Wells concluded.
