Five wanted for Rynfield house robberies

No arrests were made. Police are investigating.

Two cases of house robberies were opened at the Benoni Police Station after two families were tied up at a complex on President Kruger Street, Rynfield, on June 30.

The two robberies occurred between 01.15 and 01.30.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said in the first apartment the owner alleged he was sleeping when he heard the sound of the sliding door opening. However, he did not check.

“His bedroom light was switched on and he saw an unknown man pointing a firearm at him,” said Sekele.

“Two of the five robbers were armed with firearms and one with a crowbar. The victim was with his friend in the house. The robbers tied both of them up with a rope in one of the bedrooms.”

Sekele said two of the alleged suspects were guarding the victims while the other three ransacked the house.
They took a TV, Xbox, clothes and jewellery.

The spokesperson said the robbers then proceeded to the next apartment after 15 minutes.

“The woman alleged she was asleep when the light in her bedroom came on. She then saw three men who had covered their faces with buffs.

“One of the men was armed with a firearm and two with knives. One of them tied up her and her son before searching the house,” she said.

“They then demanded money and jewellery.”

They fled with a laptop, two cellphones, a TV and an undisclosed amount of money.

They gained entry into the house by removing one of the burglar bars on one of the windows.

No arrests were made. Police are investigating.
