A man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition recently at the Wattville Hostel around 16:30.

Actonville SAPS spokesperson Sgt Godin Nyathi said the arrest came as a result of crime-prevention members who followed up on a tip-off regarding two suspicious men.

“The men were suspected to be the ones who were terrorising the business owners in Actonville,” said Nyathi.

“The duo was cornered at the hostel, one was apprehended and found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and four live rounds of ammunition.”

His accomplice managed to run away.

The officers, who arrested the man, were Sgt Clearance Motimela and Sgt Kgabo Ntshodisang.

The case was opened at the Actonville Police Station and the man will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
