Baby born at police station

Putfontein SAPS station commander Lt-Col Wellington Mathiane applauded the members for going beyond the call of duty in assisting the woman and baby.

Putfontein police officers have been lauded as heroes after helping a woman give birth at the station on September 4 at around 03:45.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi said the officers assisted the woman who was in labour while she was at the police station waiting for an ambulance.

“The pregnant woman was accompanied to the police station by her partner and started to experience labour pains. The woman was taken to the trauma centre at the station and the members on duty assisted her to give birth to a healthy baby girl.

“Soon afterwards, an ambulance arrived and took them to hospital for further medical assistance.”

Putfontein SAPS station commander Lt-Col Wellington Mathiane applauded the members for going beyond the call of duty.
