A 40-year-old woman was arrested for stealing a laptop on September 2 in Nicator Road, Crystal Park, around 11:00.
Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mopeli said according to the victim, a white Toyota Corolla with three occupants hooted at her gate.
“She went outside. An unknown woman exited the vehicle and asked her for the prices of the cakes the woman sells,” said Mopeli.
“As she was talking to the woman, another woman came out and asked if she can use the toilet. She opened the gate, showed her the toilet inside the house and continued talking to the other woman.
“Then another woman exited the vehicle and joined the conversation. However, the homeowner saw through the window that the woman who was inside took her laptop and put it inside her bag. When she ran inside, the woman pushed her, drop the laptop on the sofa and ran off .”
Mopeli said the two women fled in the car and the other one ran off. The woman who fled on foot was arrested, but the other two escaped.
The laptop was recovered. The spokesperson said the Corolla is alleged to be involved in several recent thefts in the area.
“In some of the cases the women would ask for employment and then steal your valuables,” she said.
“The woman arrested has been linked to another theft in the area.”
Police are still searching for the other two women. A case of theft was opened at the Crystal Park Police Station. The woman will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
