A brush with local artists: meet Valinda Lombard
The Bar is open to all individuals who have a passion for creativity in all drawing and painting disciplines, as well as sculpture.
“Art can be an escape, an idealisation or simply a means of play.” – Unknown.
This is how Valinda Lombard (55) described her passion for drawing and colouring from a young age.
The Crystal Park resident feels fortunate that she can pursue her dreams of becoming a full-time artist and putting pencil to paper or brush on canvas anytime she wants.
Her first art lessons were in the early ’80s with Christo van Rensburg (nom de plume Christophorus), who introduced her to oil paints.

Later on, she went for art lessons with Carlo Sdoya, who taught her different mediums of drawing and painting and took quite a liking to soft pastels.

The Benoni Art Route (Bar) member said her drawing and painting style has always been very detailed, but at times she attempts a looser style (not getting bogged down with unnecessary details).
“Above all, I prefer photo-realism, being able to move people intellectually or emotionally through the art that I create, which is wonderful and fulfilling to me, as well as the sense of accomplishment after a great sketch or painting,” she said.
She added that she enjoys creating and exploring her world and her imagination with her art.
The Bar is open to all individuals who have a passion for creativity in all drawing and painting disciplines, as well as sculpture.
The art route exhibits every last Sunday of the month at CR Swart Park, Rynfield, from 10:00 to 15:00.
